Anguilla is this week hosting the largest number of civil servants to meet on the island in recent times. The delegates, from throughout the region, are attending the 47th Annual Caribbean Public Services Association Conference at different locations on the island. The theme of the conference is: “An Effective Agent for positive Trade Union Transformation and Human Advancement”.
The programme of activities commenced with a church service at Bethel Methodist Church on Sunday, July 23, followed by the official opening ceremony at Royale Caribbean Resort. The feature address was delivered by Mrs. Evalie Bradley, Ministerial Assistant in the Ministry of Home Affairs – a former Establishments Secretary and later, Labour Commissioner. Other persons who spoke briefly included Acting Deputy Governor, Mrs. Kathleen Rogers, Ms. Susan Hodge, President of the Anguilla Civil Service Association; and representatives of the Caribbean Public Services Association who brought greetings from their respective unions. The delegates were entertained by Kyanne Rogers, Miss Tiny Tott 2017/2018; and T’arah Niles, an upcoming poet and dramatist.
The CPSA activities on Monday and Tuesday included a men’s and women’s forum at Jaye’s; a men’s and women’s workshop and a workshop for future leaders at La Vue. On Wednesday was a panel discussion on the theme of the conference and talks on the Regional Public Service Charter, at Masara Resort.
Among other engagements, the conference continued on Thursday and Friday with business sessions at Masara Resort. A dance with music of the 1960s and 70s was scheduled for Friday night at the Red Dragon Disco; and on Saturday, the day of the departure of the delegates, a trip to Sandy Island was organised for those delegates having the time to take advantage of that opportunity.
