On Friday July 21, 2017 one of Anguilla’s premier track and field clubs, the Rainbow Rockets, held its 1st GALA and Awards ceremony at Dorack’s Place Katouche.
The event which was a night of celebration was chaired by Vanessa Thompson one of the founding members of the club. The ceremony included remarks by Alexis Ryan; and Hulia Carty Jr., the President of the club who welcomed all present and offered congratulations to all the athletes. He urged them to continue to train and work hard.
The feature address was delivered by Ms. Artesha Richardson, one of Anguilla’s rising athletes who received a track and field scholarship and is currently a student at North Texas University. She spoke about her own journey as an athlete, the long hours of practice and experiences travelling overseas to represent Anguilla. She encouraged the athletes present to continue to work hard and train hard, listen to their coaches, exercise and eat right to maintain their high level of performance.
The highlight of the night was the awarding of eighty (80) athletes with certificates for their outstanding performance as part of the club. Mr. Alexis Ryan gave the highlights of each athlete’s performance, while Rainbow Rockets executive members assisted in presenting the awards.
The Rainbow Rockets places on record its thanks and appreciation to all sponsors, parents and all supporters for their assistance in the first Annual Gala ceremony.
