The Board of Directors of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) are delighted to announce that their hard working Executive Director, Mrs Gilda Gumbs Samuel has won the coveted award of “National Hotel Association Executive of the Year”. The Award was presented at the recently held Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Tourism Summit in Jamaica.
The CHTA press release from the event states that Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel won the award because she is recognized as one of the most proactive association executives in the region as she is always one of the first local hotel association executives to respond to requests made by CHTA. They go on to say that she works hard to incorporate both the private sector and public sector on Anguilla and along with the tourism authority on her island, she has been tirelessly promoting CHTA’s “Tourism is Key” campaign with posters, banners and ads in the newspapers to raise awareness of the importance of tourism to Anguilla and the Caribbean region. Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel works hard every year to bring together a team of chefs and bartenders to compete in CHTA’s “Taste of the Caribbean Culinary” competition. National association executives from across the Caribbean region say that Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel exemplifies the true meaning of service.
When presenting the award Mr Alec Sanguinetti, Director General and CEO of CHTA said, “ The Association Executive of the Year goes to a person who exemplifies the true meaning of a can do attitude. Her glass is never half empty, but always half full or flowing over with things to do. She is always one of the first local hotel association executives to respond and clearly one of the most proactive association executives in the region. “
On receiving the Award Mrs Gumbs Samuel said “ I am extremely proud to have won this Award, to know that I have the full support and endorsement of my CHTA colleagues as well as the AHTA Board of Directors and Membership for the work we do here in Anguilla to improve tourism”.
Mrs Gumbs Samuels is currently in Miami with the Anguilla National Culinary Team who are competing in the Taste of the Caribbean competition.
