Willie C. Foy, Sr., a 103 year-old World War II veteran and his wife Wilhelmina Foy, of New York, USA, recently took their first overseas trip together. They only applied for their passports in 2015 and, two years later, chose Anguilla as their first international travel destination.
The trip was not random as they traveled to take part in celebrating the christening of their only great grandson, Chauncey L. Foy Connor, 4-month old son of Gender Development Coordinator, Dr. Ronya Foy Connor and Andy Connor of Blowing Point. The 103 year-old Foy wanted to witness the christening service first hand and he convinced his wife to travel along.
On Mother’s Day, the couple joined the worshippers of Dominion Faith Centre. As a special token, Pastor Dexter Welcome, who is also a student of the Anguilla Ani Art Academy, presented the centenarian with a portrait of the couple which he sketched earlier this year. He noted that it was an honour to finally meet the elder Foys in person after spending countless hours drawing their likeness.
Dr. Foy Connor emphasized that the occasion was doubly special for her since she not only celebrated her first Mother’s Day as a mother, but she was also able to have her grandparents and her own mother, Lenola Foy, in attendance for the blessing of their beautiful baby boy, Chauncey.
The senior couple returned to New York, but have already stated that they hope to visit Anguilla again. Mr. Willie Foy said that he loves Anguilla since it reminds him of his birthplace in North Carolina. Mrs. Wilhelmina Foy added that the people of Anguilla are so friendly and she is happy to visit the land as Anguillians celebrate 50 years since the Revolution.
We wish the Foys good health and continued longevity and hope to have them back in Anguilla shortly.
