Telecommunication Giant, Flow, is wishing Anguilla’s athletes the best of luck in the upcoming CARIFTA Games in Curacao on April 15 to 17. The team, which comprises 8 athletes and two coaches, left the island on Wednesday.
During a special presentation on Monday, FLOW presented the athletes and their coaches with Flow backpacks, headphones, fitness wrist bands, cellular phones and t-shirts emblazoned with the company’s name.
Desron Bynoe, Flow’s Country Manager, speaking about his company’s support for the athletes said: “The idea is give our young sportsmen and women hope through life changing initiatives through the CARIFTA Games, and it is for that reason we, as a company, have come on board, because we have a deep sense of commitment to youth development as no development will yield a higher return than you, our youths, because you are the future of Anguilla and…the world.”
He went on: “We also invest heavily in the development of athletics and sports across the region. Locally we have supported both primary and high school sports, and our regional partnership with the North American Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) reaffirms that commitment.”
Manager and Head Coach of the CARIFTA Team, Ms Heather Richardson, said: “We’re expecting each and everyone to do a personal best, and we do expect a couple medals at least coming out of CARIFTA. The race is always stiff with 26 countries competing – with the big guns like Jamaica, The Bahamas, Trinidad – but we have always medaled when we go to CARIFTA even if we walk with one…Even though we are small we do expect to walk away with some medals.”
Last year, Flow signed a three-year partnership with the NACAC to be the exclusive partner and title sponsor of the CARIFTA Games. For the second time in the history of the CARIFTA Games, the event will be broadcasted live in High Definition (HD) across the Caribbean – and a first in Anguilla with Flow TV, on its sports premier channel 472, and the Flow Sports App.
