Students at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla kicked off Semester Two 2016/2017 by participating in the Regional Guild Fest 2017. Under the theme “Bridging the Gap across the Sea” the January 15th – 20th celebration included all UWI Open Campus Territories. Activities included a “Social Media Storm”, the Annual General Meeting, an “I am UWI Day” and Councilors Day.
The highlight of the week was the Guild Awards and Social Evening and the presentation of the Guild Tuition Grant Award to Ms. Elesia Piper on January 19th. Elesia, who is enrolled in the University’s Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management Degree programme, was one of three applicants for the local award. The grant was made available to all the UWI Open Campus Guild Chapters across the region and covers the cost of one course for Semester Two.
The Award was presented by Chair of the local Chapter Mr. Trevor Queeley and Vice Chair Ms. Kareen Harrigan who congratulated Elesia on behalf of the entire student body. In expressing her appreciation for the award, Elesia who had the highest GPA amongst all the applicants, encouraged her fellow students to continue to work hard and take advantage of this initiative by the Guild by also applying for the award.
The week of activities ended on January 20th with the “Open Campus Now and Then Event” hosted by the Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal, Dr. Luz Longsworth and Chair of the Regional Guild, Howard Brown.
