During the Anguilla Day Official Parade, at the Ronald Webster Park, four new National Symbols were unveiled.
The symbols were the cedar tree and flowers, unveiled by former civil servant, Patricia Baird; the ground lizard, unveiled by Minister of Social Development, Edison Baird; a rice and peas dish, unveiled by former restaurant operator, Cora Richardson; the National Colours of Anguilla, unveiled by craftswoman, Mary Martin; and boat racing, unveiled by former Chief Minister, Emile Gumbs.
The ceremony was presided over by Director of Youth and Culture, Dwayne Adams. A number of school children read brief descriptions of each symbol which were then unveiled by the above persons.
The symbols were approved by the Executive Council as Anguilla’s Official Emblems. They resulted from a competition held on September 24, last year, by the Department of Youth and Culture.
Two other long- recognised symbols, which mounted along with the others, were the words of the National Song, God Bless Anguilla by Alex Richardson; and the Turtle Dove, the National Bird of Anguilla.
