Sunday 17th October, 2016. Scotiabank Anguilla and the Rotary Club of Anguilla have partnered for the third consecutive year to send three primary school students to attend the Spelling Bee Competition in Saint Maarten, being held on the 16th, 23rd and 30th October, 2016. The Spelling Bee Competition is organized by the Rotary Club of Saint Maarten and is open to students from Anguilla.
The Department of Education held a spelling competition and the three participants selected to represent Anguilla are as follows:
1. Steven Connor from Adrian T. Hazell Primary School;
2. Sagé Connor from Adrian T. Hazell Primary School; and
3. Ja’el Benta from Morris Vanterpool Primary School.
The students from Anguilla joined thirty nine (39) students in Saint Maarten for the first round of the competition on 16th October, 2016. Team Anguilla comprised a contingent of thirty five (35) people which included a Representative from the Department of Education, Principal, Teachers, Parents and the Student Counsel Body from the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, a Teacher from the Morris Vanterpool Primary School and Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Anguilla.
At the end of the first round fifteen (15) students were selected to move onto the second round which will be held on Sunday 23rd October. Steven Connor from the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School successfully secured a position in the second round and will be competing again on Sunday.
The Rotary Club of Anguilla is very proud of the students for their hard work in preparing for the competition and because they gave a great account of themselves at the competition. President of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, Genefa Fedee, said “the competition level is very high so we are quite pleased that our students continue to excel and make us proud”.
