On Wednesday 21st September, the Home and Food Technology Department at the ALHCS unveiled their “Bernice Fahie Richardson Wall of Excellence”: a beautiful, spectacular monument honouring both long-time teacher, Mrs. Bernice Fahie Richardson, for her excellence in teaching and her years of service, as well as students with outstanding performances in the areas of Textiles, Clothing and Fashion, Food, Nutrition and Health, Family and Resource Management and Fashion and Design. They also revealed their book of honour entitled, Creme de la Creme of the Home and Food Technology Department, which showcased honour students from years one to five.
In her opening remarks Mrs. Shermin Wrensford-Adams said, “It is our vision to foster lifelong skills in our students. The subjects we teach help to develop well-rounded, functional citizens who are able to contribute back to society. The skills they acquire in our Department are both basic and refined and filter into every area of life. These are not fringe subjects. We develop physical skills, but also intellectual capacity, as well as leadership and cooperative skills.
“We are proud of our students performance. The Bible instructs us to give honour to whom honour is due. With the unveiling of this monument, and our presentation of our “Creme de la Creme” book of honour, we honour both our students an a lifelong educator.”
A stone plaque was presented to Mrs. Fahie Richardson, on behalf of the Department, and was accepted by her brother, Dr. Wycliffe Fahie, who expressed gratitude and satisfaction with the teachers’ tremendous gesture. Mrs. Fahie Richardson has provided more than 40 years of service to Anguilla in the area of education.
