A number of students, from throughout Anguilla, have benefitted from a series of motivational addresses delivered by four very able presenters.
The event was at La Vue Conference Hall on Saturday evening, September 10. The students were from the Open Campus and Guild of the University of the West Indies in Anguilla; the Anguilla Community College; the Sixth Form of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School; and the Comprehensive Learning Centre.
The speakers, who spoke mainly about their educational pursuits and accomplishments, were: Mrs. Natasha Welcome, a two-degree graduate of the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies and a Teacher at the Omolulu International School; Deputy Governor, Mr. Perin Bradley, a graduate of Howard University; Ms. Michelle Queeley, a two-degree graduate of the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies – now a PhD student at the Open Campus in Anguilla – and a Teacher at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School; and Mr. Vanburn Brooks, a US-trained Anguillian Architect (with Morlen’s Architectural Services) who was involved in the building of CeBlue Villas and Beach Resort at Crocus Bay and Zemi Beach House, Resort Spa Residences at East Shoal Bay.
It was a very informative session, ably chaired by Mr. Colin Johnson, a Teacher at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School and a well-known dramatist and cultural performer.
Among those at the motivational event were the Anguilla-based Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, Manager of the UWI Open Campuses in the British Caribbean Overseas Territories; and Mr. Trevor Queeley, President of the Student Guild of the Open Campus in Anguilla.
