The Department of Education currently has two Education Welfare Officers, Ms. Natasha Carty and Ms. Conisha Gumbs. The Education Welfare Officer Unit is stationed at the Teachers’ Resource Centre located in The Valley. Each officer works with designated schools in ensuring that all children of compulsory age are receiving appropriate support to achieve maximum school attendance. Ms. Carty zealously works with Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary, Morris Vanterpool Primary, Valley Primary, Campus A and W.I.S.E – while it is a pleasure for Ms. Gumbs to work with Adrian T. Hazell Primary, Orealia Kelly Primary, Vivien Vanterpool Primary, Campus B and Pupil Referral Unit (Campus C).
As your Education Welfare Officers, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all new and returning students to school year 2016-2017. We trust that you had an exciting and well rested summer vacation and are now geared to challenge the new school year ahead. Please take advantage of the upcoming learning opportunities that your school will offer, tackle new challenges, participate in extra-curricular activities, show your school pride and always remember to respect yourself, students and school staff.
Parents and guardians, we are ready to work with you. We will continue to forge fruitful relationships between school and home to maximize your children’s school attendance which is beneficial to their overall success. Ensure that your children are equipped for school, with their proper uniform, school supplies and healthy meals. At the primary level, morning and afternoon sessions begin at 8:25 am and 1:00 pm respectively. At the secondary campuses, these sessions commence at 8:20 am and 1:10 pm. Please make an effort to have your children attend school daily and on time.
We welcome all parents and guardians to visit our office to discuss any concerns in relation to school attendance. Please feel free to contact us at 497 5403 or 497 5704. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Let us all strive to make the 2016-2017 school year a success.
