On Thursday, September 1st, and Friday, September 2nd, 2016, the Anguilla Customs Department hosted a two-day training seminar for Officers and local agents on the use of SailClear. SailClear is a software system that was developed by the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC) to facilitate the movement of vessels, crews and passengers within the Caribbean region. The training session was conducted by Mr. Aaron Smith, IT Manager, CCLEC (St. Lucia).
SailClear allows yachts and small pleasure craft operators to submit their electronic Customs declarations in advance, using pre-arrival notifications. This considerably reduces waiting time at ports, by eliminating the need for manually filling out declaration forms, thus allowing travellers to spend more time enjoying their voyage.
The registration process for the SailClear service is simple, and takes only a few minutes online. SailClear is a secure, encrypted system and users can rest assured that their personal details and data will be secured.
Currently, SailClear is available in many Caribbean territories including the Dominican Republic, Curacao, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Grenada, St. Lucia, Saint Kitts, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Dominica and Turks and Caicos. SailClear is set to be introduced in Anguilla for the upcoming Tourist season.
