Mr ‘Anguillian’ Editor:
Fixing the Little Things
I’d like to express my appreciation for your coverage of points made at the June 16 2016 Chamber of Commerce’s Annual General Meeting. I read it, and said “Yes/Finally/Amen”…these longstanding deficiencies need to be aired, discussed, addressed and fixed by the appropriate agencies.
I’d like to add one more issue to the list, and foot-stomp one already listed.
New Issue: Anguilla is in dire need of better signage of essential agencies and buildings…starting with the signage to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. God help a sick/injured person, in need of medical attention, who doesn’t know where the hospital is located! Even if he/she finds his/her way to the general vicinity, the small sign with the faded “H”, obscured behind overgrown bush, is of no great help.
In addition to addressing this essential facility, there needs to be better signage to beaches, restaurants, etc. I overheard a recent conversation between visitors departing AXA concerning their frustration with this deficiency.
Foot-stomp Issue: Litter!! It’s everywhere but where it should be — in trash containers. It hurts to see discarded bottles, food containers and, yes, even used baby diapers, discarded in areas used by the general public … to include our magnificent beaches. Contractors can only pick up what’s in the trash containers … but there is so much that doesn’t make it there. Simply put …it’s nasty and needs focused attention.
Yes… addressing and improving the little things improve the quality of life for all of us. Thank you.
