One of Anguilla’s well loved sporting activities Bike Racing has received a major boost in an effort to get more youths involved in the sport. Mr. Vaughn Hazell presented twenty four bicycles and helmets to the six Government primary schools as well as the two private primary schools here in Anguilla.
It is intended that the bicycles be used by students, attending each of these schools, in the Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) Primary School Cycling Championship.
Mr. Vaughn Hazell, an avid cyclist, saw the need for greater participation by the youths of Anguilla. Cycling has provided the opportunity for Anguillian cyclists such as Timothy Richardson, Ronnie Bryan, Charles Bryan, Chris Pradel and, more recently, Ricardo Romney, Hasani Hennis and his brother Joseph Hercules to represent Anguilla at both regional and international events.
It is Mr. Hazell’s wish to get more youths involved so that they can be groomed to become world class cyclists, eventually representing Anguilla in the most prestigious cycling event there is – the Tour De France.
As more young people get involved he is hopeful that in the future something similar can be arranged for the students of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
Special thanks to Vaughn Hazell for his hard work and dedication. Thanks are extended to Vern Carty, Kurtz Lloyd and Timothy Richardson for their assistance in assembling and tuning the bicycles.
