The North Hill community, and many other members of the public, from throughout Anguilla, have paid their last respects to the late Collins Wilfred Richardson. He was born on April 12, 1945, and died on April 19, 2016. He was a noted building contractor and boat-racing enthusiast.
He was so passionate about boating and boat-racing that a replica of a sleek Anguillian racing boat remained placed on his casket throughout the funeral service at Bethel Methodist Church on Saturday, May 14.
Mr. David Carty, a local historian of North Hill, the former home village of the late Mr. Richardson, spoke of the life and work of his friend and the unique person he was. He mentioned, in some detail, the deceased’s contribution to the construction industry in St. Thomas, US. Virgin Islands and Anguilla. One of his several building projects in Anguilla was the Mariners Hotel at Sandy Ground. Richardson was also remembered for his absorbing interest in boat-racing, unique manner of expression, engaging personality, friendliness and love.
The sermon was delivered by the deceased’s nephew, Reverend Lindsay K. Richardson, who took the opportunity to speak about family love and the special person his uncle had been. He was joined by the Reverend Dr. Wycherley Gumbs who, like the late villager, grew up in North Hill and shared a mutual friendship.
