The Certificate Ceremony for Culinary Connect – Pan Asian Cuisine with Chef Ken Lin – was held on April 16th, 2016. Culinary Connect is part of the Community Connect Series, a new initiative which focuses on continuing and adult education for the non-traditional student. The courses are designed to appeal to a wider and diverse audience.
The Anguilla Community College was delighted by the response for this course. The eight participants varied in age, professional background and interests but were united by one thing: a love for cooking and a desire to learn more about different cooking styles and techniques. They attended cooking classes at the College on Saturday mornings for 10 weeks.
The youngest participants in the course shared enthusiastically about their experiences. Nandi Edwards said:
“I had an AMAZING time at the Pan-Asian Culinary Course at the Anguilla Community College. I learned how to make a wide range of Japanese dishes including my favorite chicken sushi. In this course we learned how to chop, dice, prep, wrap, and make sauces, fry, sauté and present Asian cuisine. Many of the skills I learned can be used in cooking other types of cuisine as well. We learned a lot about Asian flavours and how to combine them. Chef Ken has a great personality and is a very creative Chef, and he even shared knowledge about the history of Asian food and culture as he taught us the techniques. Chef Ken also incorporated our ideas for dishes we wanted to create. It was a very practical course and in each class we cooked a different dish and so I had a great lunch after each class! I can’t wait to do another cooking course at the ACC, and am keeping my fingers crossed that baking and cake decorating is offered soon.”
Tyriek Liburd, another young participant, shared: “It was very exciting. Chef Ken made the course fun and relaxing. If you made a mistake we all just laughed it off and learned from the mistake. I want to be a Chef and I would definitely be interested in taking other cooking courses at the Anguilla Community College.”
Special thanks to Chef Ken Lin of Cha Cha San for facilitating this course. Ken Lin noted: “It was my pleasure to share my Asian cuisine experience with lovely people and students at the Anguilla Community College. We had a good time cooking and enjoyed all the dishes we made together during the past weeks. The most important thing for me was the opportunity to introduce the true Asian flavor to this paradise – Anguilla.”
The Anguilla Community College will be offering International Cuisine and a range of other short courses during the summer.
