The Valley, Anguilla, April 12, 2016…….The Anguilla Tourist Board reintroduced the island as a desirable, accessible, premium quality destination to the affluent, well-traveled Canadian consumers of Ottawa at the Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show this past weekend.
The largest and most successful travel show in Canada, the Ottawa Travel and Vacation show attracted some 17,000 trade and consumer attendees over the course of two days, April 9 & 10. Some 250 exhibitors representing destinations from every corner of the globe were present, including a significant Caribbean presence.
This year’s show coincided with the publication of a major feature on Anguilla in the National Post, a leading daily paper, penned by a journalist hosted by the Anguilla Tourist Board in February. The article generated much interest in the island, introducing the destination to many who had never heard of Anguilla before, who came to the Anguilla booth seeking information and discovery.
“Canada has always been an important market for Anguilla, we have common historical, cultural and economic ties,” said Donna Banks, Chairperson of the Anguilla Tourist Board. “We intend to increase our presence in this marketplace, with a focus on the wedding, incentive and family market segments. Our December 2015 arrivals from Canada were up 17%, and we need to ensure that this positive trend continues through 2016.”
Several media appointments were arranged and conducted during the course of the show, including Peter Johannssen, Travel Reporter for The Ottawa Citizen, Taste & Travel International and Bounder magazine among others; Bruce Sach, freelance contributor to The Ottawa Citizen; Pierre Jury, Food Editor of Le Droit; Peter Hum, Food Editor for The Ottawa Citizen; Karan Smith, former Travel Editor and now contributor to the Globe & Mail; freelance travel writer Ann Simpkins; and Brigitte Hasbron, who publishes a popular travel and food blog called The Food Tease. All the writers expressed great interest in Anguilla, and a strong desire to learn more about the destination.
The Anguilla Tourist Board was represented by Monica Garcia from the Canadian office and Alison Ross from the New York office.
