Recognising that Anguilla’s beaches are one of the island’s most important economic resources and in response to requests from the public, the Anguilla National Trust and the Department of Health Protection (Government of Anguilla) have launched an Adopt-a-Beach programme. Individuals, youth groups, and other organisations or agencies interested in organising a beach clean-up as a part of a community service exercise are encouraged to contact the ANT at 497 5297, indicating which beach they wish to adopt and the date and time of their proposed clean-up activity. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided by the ANT and the Department of Health Protection and all filled garbage bags will be collected by the Department for proper disposal at the Corito landfill. Beaches that have been identified as priority sites for clean-up activities include Mimi Bay, Sandy Hill Bay, Long Salt Pond Bay, Savannah/Junk’s Hole Bay, Forest Bay, Cove Bay, West End Bay, Sherricks Bay, Lockrum/Round Rock Bay, Sile Bay, Auntie Dol Bay, Blowing Point Bay, and Corito Bay.
