The Anguilla Cricket Association in an effort to raise USD$15,000 to send two teams of Anguilla youth Cricketers and coaches to compete in the Leeward Islands Tournament in Antigua at the end of March are in need of financial support and are seeking sponsorship to “Clean-Up Anguilla.”
The “Clean-Up Anguilla” campaign will be undertaken by more than 50 youth cricketers, families and supporters and the Anguilla Cricket Association is seeking donations of pledges ‘per bag’ to assist in their effort of raising the USD$15,000 to attend this very important tournament. If you pledge $5 per bag and 50 bags of garbage are collected we are $250 closer to our goal. The more pledges we can achieve the more money we can collect and the cleaner the island becomes.
Anguilla has produced cricketers of the highest standards. In the past this achievement has been funded significantly by the Government of Anguilla but due to recent challenges, such funding has dwindled in recent years. The Leeward Island Tournament is the stage where future West Indies Cricket talent is scouted.
The heights attained by our young cricketers must be maintained especially when we realize how proud Kaecy Carty made us recently. Although a resident of St Maarten, Carty played his representative cricket for Anguilla as a U17, U19 and senior player and was recently named ‘Man of the Match’ in the U19 ICC Cricket World Cup Final Match in Bangladesh where the West Indies stunned the world cricket community by winning the World Cup title. His U19 World Cup efforts simply say that we continue to excel and we must always aim to maintain or exceed past standards.
We are asking businesses, Villa Owners, private citizens to make a pledge per every bag of garbage collected. We are going to focus our first “Clean-Up” Anguilla fundraiser in Sandy Ground on March 19th.
By assisting in financing our young cricketers and cricket in general on Anguilla, you will be assisting in building a stronger social fabric and be showcasing a safer, healthier and better Anguilla.
If you would like your business area cleaned or a road or specific area by your business, or a specific area on the Island that needs attention, The Anguilla Cricket Association would be more than happy to assist.
To support the Anguilla Cricket Association you may contact the Treasurer, Mr Hubert M Hughes at email rohann610@hotmail.com, or Anne Parles of Straw Hat Restaurant at 264-235-8200 or by email anne@strawhat.com.
This is going to be an ongoing effort to continue to keep Anguilla clean and to develop a more robust training facility for Anguilla Youth Cricket.
