On Friday 26th February, 2016 was an auspicious occasion for the villagers of Sandy Point in particular and the people Saint Kitts in general as the book, “Looking Back Through The Eyes of a Teacher’s Son, was launched in that village.”
The event was organized through the Ministry of Education and a Sandy Point Committee headed by Mr. Daryll Lloyd, Deputy Chief Education Officer. A representative faction of the primary and secondary school of the village came together at the Farm Site Community Center along with other villagers and outperformed themselves, hailing Chris for his work of art. The Deputy Prime Minister, Honorable Shawn Richards, made it clear that Sandy Pointers are naturally gifted and Chris’ production is noble and a piece of work of excellence. As the elected representative of Sandy Point he urged Chris to write more books. His former High School English Teacher, Dr. Eustace Esdaille referenced Chris as one who has been inducted into the status quo of being one of the three illustrious international authors Sandy Point has ever produced.
The poetry, drama and song filled the atmosphere as the Sandy Pointers expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the work of art of their fellow villager. The atmosphere was truly charged with excitement.
The signing ceremony was met with thunderous applauds and expressions of pride from the audience, as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis stepped forward being the first to receive his copy. This was followed by the Principals of the schools and other residents of Sandy Point and other villages of St. Kitts.
Chris’ sister, Gracemae Richardson Carty, thanked the people of Sandy Point and Saint Kitts for their outpouring of love and appreciation for Chris’ work as the occasion also marked the Teacher in the book, Teacher Mrs. Richardson, 85th birthday. .
