This is the first time in eight years that a boxing event was held in the Caribbean. The Caribbean Development Tournament was an effort on behalf of some 15 Caribbean countries. Guyana, should be applauded for taking up the the task of hosting this event and by extension making a platform for the sport of Boxing to grow in the region.
The Anguilla Boxing Association (ABA) would like to acknowledge those persons and sponsors for making this a reality. Firstly we would like to thank the Hon. Minister of Sports Cardigan Connor as he was instrumental in assisting in acquiring the needed funds for the event. Dorice Fleming and the Anguilla Social Security Board that came through at the last hour and ultimately allowed us to make the trip. The Department of Youth for assisting us while in Guyana and in need. Calypso Charters for transporting us in a timely manner and last but not least, Carter Law for their financial contribution and last but not least Rollins Richardson and the Sports Department jumped at the opportunity to support the event with the initial cheque.”
We are looking forward to an eventful year with visits to the nearby islands of St. Maarten, St. Thomas, St. Kitts and Antigua to prepare for the 2nd Annual Caribbean Development Tournament in Barbados, 9th December 2016.
