Dear Mr Editor:
I AM HAPPY TO SUPPORT THE ECCB BILL. WHY?
1. The poor among us will have their hard earned deposits made secure.
2. Willful defaulters will learn that there’s a price to pay when they don’t repay.
3. Some of the powerful shareholders can no longer treat the banks as the holder of their personal savings, while they put at peril the savings of others.
4. The right Government is in power to deal with the crisis.
5. All the opportunists are coming out of the woodwork pretending to love us, to love the people of Anguilla, but they are all about themselves. They are all playing politics.
6. Our poor little depositors who are being led astray, saying they are demonstrating against the Bill, are being used again by the power hungry and the pretenders. How sad, but that will end soon.
7. Anguillians will learn to be guided by rules and regulations – something they seem to hate.
8. The ECCB will be watching over banking operations here, and the ECCB itself will be watched over by other banking institutions. So every boss has a boss.
9. Of all the options, the ECCB way is the best way to go. Do you want Britain or the ‘wealthy’ defaulters/shareholders? Or do you want the banks to close?
10. No more lending of friends to friends, of family to family, of shareholder to shareholder.
11. No longer will four persons owe the banks $160,000,000.
Thank God the ECCB is taking over. The sooner the better.
Yours truly
A poor man (thankful to Government for ensuring that my small savings will not be lost)
