As part of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association British Isles and Mediterranean Region’s Post Election Seminar In Anguilla, a youth session was held at La Vue for the upcoming youth parliamentarians on Parliamentary Practices and Procedures.
The session was chaired by Mr. Lenox Proctor, clerk to the Anguilla House of Assembly and the main contributors were Ms Sharlene Cartwright Robinson, Leader of the Opposition in Turks and Caicos; Mr. Duncan McNeil, Member of Parliament of the Scottish House of Assembly; Dr. Matthew Offord Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom and Duncan Sagar, clerk to the House of Lords, UK Parliament.
The aim of the session was to provide an opportunity for the youth parliamentarians to learn the foundations of parliamentary practices and procedures through comparison and to learn from the experience of the speakers.
Participants were introduced to the Standing Orders of the House of Assembly and their importance. Comparisons were also made amongst the Scottish Parliament, UK system as well The Anguilla House of Assembly.
The session ended with an exchange of views. The event was followed by a warm reception at Government House.
