The first phase of the redevelopment programme for the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School is well in progress. The completion date is September 30, coming a few weeks following the reopening of the school from the summer vacation.

Project Officer, Mr. Raul Hazell at the Department of Infrastructure, said phase one comprises a two-floor block with four classrooms on each level; two male and female toilet areas and storerooms. The contract cost, covering labour and materials, is approximately 3.4 million East Caribbean dollars provided by the Government of Anguilla.

The provision of the new classrooms was necessitated by a state of disrepair at the existing school buildings including leakages, soggy and discoloured walls and rat-infestation. Repair work was carried out at the school late last year, as a temporary measure pending the building of new classrooms.

Mr. Hazell said his Department was awaiting the decision of the Government and Ministry of Education with respect to phase two of the project.
