Staff at the Department of Labour and the Anguilla Social Security Board are among the latest groups to participate in special briefing sessions on the programmes offered by the UWI Open Campus.
Local Site Representative Mrs. Sharon Lake and Manager of the UWI British Overseas Territories Sites, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks recently conducted another awareness-building session with Labour Commissioner Mrs. Aunika Webster-Lake and her team at the Labour Office. Following the lively and highly interactive session, several of the Labour Officials have now enrolled in the University’s Professional Development courses, as well as the online degree programmes.
Dr. Fleming-Banks also held a similar session with Human Resource Manager Ash Hodge and the staff of the Anguilla Social Security Board. During the session she shared information and fielded questions on the local face-to-face and online undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes being offered at the UWI, as well as the registration process and the support provided by the local Site.
Over the past few months the UWI Representatives have been carrying out a series of outreach sessions and encouraging public and private sector, as well as Anguillians and residents to take advantage of the online and on site programmes being offered by the University.
The Open Campus arm of the UWI is dedicated to taking the UWI to the underserved areas of the region and the Certificate, Diploma, Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Degree programmes provide affordable and flexible pathways to personal and professional development, Dr. Fleming-Banks points out.
The wide range of accredited online and on site programmes are relevant and economical and provide the unique opportunity for individuals to obtain a world-class education at a fraction of the external costs, while continuing to meet their employment, family and other commitments, says the Anguillian-based UWI BOTs Manager. Individuals can proceed at their own pace by enrolling as fulltime, part-time, or “specially admitted students” in the Management, Education, Banking and Finance, Social Work, Social Sciences and Tourism and Hospitality programmes.
The UWI Open Campus is also encouraging private and public sector employees to take advantage of the University’s Prior Learning Assessment Programme, which allows them to translate their on-the-job experience into University credits. These credits can then be used towards a certificate or degree programme, or to improve themselves within their current employment.
UWI Open Campus Anguilla is expressing appreciation to the management and staff of the Department of Labour and the Social Security Board, as well as all the other organisations and groups for the opportunity to share the University’s programmes with them.
The UWI Open Campus is reminding everyone that applications for the 2015/2016 academic year should be submitted before 30 June 2015. Persons or companies interested in the special information sharing sessions are encouraged to contact the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Site at anguilla@open.uwi.edu or telephone 497-8156.
The local team is also inviting interested persons to visit the University website at http://www.open.uwi.edu/prospective/welcome or the local Site office for additional assistance as they seek to take advantage of the opportunity to continue their professional and academic development through the Online and face-to-face programmes.
