On Friday, May 8th, 2015, members of the Anguilla Red Cross donated a wheelchair to polio survivor,
Mr. Theodore Rogers of The Quarter. On hand to witness the happy event was Mr. Marvin Proctor, of the Water Department, who is the caretaker for Mr. Rogers.
Mr. Ricky Rouphine, (Anguilla Red Cross Branch Manager) and Mrs. Sharon Lake, (Red Cross Community Support Services Manager), worked together to set up the wheel chair after which Mr. Proctor assisted a very grateful Mr. Rogers to sit and try out his new wheelchair. Mr. Trevor Queeley, (Anguilla Red Cross Disaster Risk Reduction Manager), took photos of the occasion.
Mr. Rogers told the group that he worked for many years at the bottling plant which was located a short distance from his home before his illness and thanked the Anguilla Red Cross representatives for the donation of the new wheelchair. He indicated that the wheelchair would provide him with opportunities to be outside more often to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and be able to visit his neighbours who lived nearby.
Before the group departed, Mr. Rouphine pointed out that efforts would be made to build a small ramp in order to allow Mr. Rogers to move from the inside his house to the exterior with a little difficulty as possible.
