The Supervisor of Elections wishes to advise Anguilla’s voting population that the Final list of Voters will be published on the 20th April 2015, two days prior to Anguilla’s 2015 General Elections. The delay in the publication of a final list is unavoidable and is as a consequence of the appeals filed. Accordingly, it is necessary to accommodate the review of these appeals arising from objections to particular names on the Preliminary List and the possibility of a subsequent revision following the hearing by the Magistrate of the appeals and her decision in relation to same.
All efforts are being made to have all appeals heard and determined before Election Day. In the event that this does not occur, it should be noted that pursuant to section 24(7) of the Elections Act “The right of a person whose name is for the time being on the list of voters to vote at an election shall not be prejudiced by an appeal that is pending under this section and any vote given at an election in pursuance of that right shall be as good as if no appeal were pending and shall not be affected by the subsequent decision of the appeal.”
Therefore, any person who is the subject of an appeal, where that person’s name appeared on the preliminary list, provided that the court has not made a determination in relation to that person’s appeal, shall be permitted to vote. However, where there has been a determination by the Magistrate, the decision of the court shall apply.
Persons are reminded that on 22nd April 2015 Polling Stations in each of the 7 districts will open at 6:00am and close at 7pm. Persons are encouraged to go out and vote, it is a constitutional right.
