The Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, anxious to see a high level of economic development on the island, has hosted its final political debate for party leaders and candidates in the April 22 general election.
The President of the Chamber, Attorney-at-Law, Mr Keithley F.T. Lake of Lake & Associates, announced the debate at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon this week. Mr Lake explained that the debate on Thursday, April 9, at the Orealia Kelly Primary School Auditorium, has the following purpose:
“This event will afford the leaders of the three political parties, along with the independent candidates, the opportunity to debate matters that affect the business community of Anguilla,” he explained. “The primary focus of the debate will be on economic and development issues. The debate is the conclusion of the Chamber’s Political Radio Series which was aired on Radio Anguilla during October 2014.”
Mr Lake told reporters: “We have serious economic issues confronting this island and the Chamber has to lead the charge in shaping and fashioning the economic destiny of the island to the benefit of the general population, and in particular, the business community.”
He stressed that there was a need “to hear from those who seek to lead the island, over the next five years, as to their plans in addressing these important issues.
“The Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry continues to promote local businesses and business-related opportunities in Anguilla,” Mr Lake added.
The Chamber’s hosting of its series of political debates followed those held earlier by the Literary and Debating Society of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School which resulted in a great deal of public interest and support.
