Leader of the DOVE Party in Anguilla, Mr Sutcliffe Hodge, has written similar letters to Mr Hewlett Gumbs, General Manager of Sol Anguilla, and Ms Mavis John, General Manager, Delta Anguilla, in connection with the reduction in price of Petroleum Products.
The text of the letters to each of the addressees is as follows:
REDUCTION IN PRICE OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS
“we want to be on record thanking you for the recent reductions in the retail prices of petrol in Anguilla following our correspondence to you dated 17 November 2014. These reductions brought much needed relief to consumers.
“As a follow up to our earlier letter to you, we again write on the same subject of retail prices of gasoline, diesel and liquid propane gas (LPG or cooking gas). We are sure that you are aware that, since our earlier letter to you, the price of crude oil on the world market declined from U.S. $78.13 per barrel (42 U.S. gallons) to as low as U.S. $45.00 per barrel. Again we appeal to you to provide additional relief to consumers once again by passing on the saving you are receiving. We recognise that whenever there is an increase in the price of crude oil on the world market, you pass on that increase to consumers. What should hold true is that when prices fall on the world market consumers should see the reduced prices reflected at the retail outlets.
“We, the members of the DOVE political party, have been keeping the general public informed of the downward price of crude oil on the world market – and that they should expect further reductions in the price of petroleum products here in Anguilla. Additionally, we have been monitoring the reduction in the retail price of gasoline, diesel and LPG across the region. We note with interest that in the case of St. Kitts they have reduced the price of gasoline as many as 10 consecutive times since July 2014 when the price of crude oil on the world market started to slide. The price of a gallon of gasoline at Sol petrol stations in St. Kitts as of 8 January 2015 was E.C. $10.75. Meanwhile, the price of a gallon of gasoline at Sol petrol stations in Anguilla is E.C. $14.89. This means that customers in Anguilla are paying E.C. $4.14 more per gallon of gasoline compared to the price that customers in St. Kitts are paying. Somehow this does not seem fair.
“We look forward to seeing you reduce the retail price of these three products in Anguilla in an effort to bring further relief to consumers.
“Respectfully
“Sutcliffe Hodge
