Motivated teams from the five Houses of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School began to square-off in a three-night Inter-House Debating Competition, described as “a most exciting event”.
The second annual debate, at the Teachers’ Resource Centre, was undertaken by the Department of Health Protection in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Culture.
The topics for the debating competition were as follows:
Wednesday, November 12: Food safety legislation is an effective way to protect public health.
Thursday, November 13: The environmental impact of reclamation on natural ecosystems is negligible; and to protect our fast-depleting groundwater resources, the Government of Anguilla should ban the sinking of private bore wells.
Friday, November 14: The economic benefits of mass tourism outweigh the environmental impacts.
