The Nutrition and Health Promotion Department as part of their Health and Wellness Fitness Program collaborated with the Anguilla Red Cross to conduct swimming lessons as a means of physical activity.
These swimming lessons were held on Saturday 25th October and 1st November 2014 at Crocus Bay in the Valley. The disaster risk reduction manager at the Red Cross, Mr. Trevor Queely and his team were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The instructors were able to teach the basic techniques of swimming to the participants who were eager to learn. As a result, most of the participants were able to swim by the end of the sessions. Swimming is a great way to keep fit, stay healthy and socialize; it is a total body workout that is easy on the joints and has many physical and mental benefits. Once mastered, swimming is a healthy activity that can be continued for a lifetime.
This initiative is in keeping with the strategic objective of the Department to improve the physical activity level of the Anguillian population. In an effort to encourage the population to lead more active lives, new and interesting activities such as swimming, wind ball cricket and road tennis are being planned and coordinated by the Department in collaboration with other organizations.
On behalf of the Health Authority of Anguilla, the Nutrition and Health Promotion Department would like to thank the Anguilla Red Cross in particular Mr. Trevor Queely and his team, for assisting the Department towards achieving the objective of improving the health and wellbeing of the Anguillian population.
