| The Anglican Church-run St. Mary’s Pre-School is showing steady growth, despite the number of children now about to leave there to enter the Government Primary School education system. |
This is seen in the figures released by the Principal, Mrs. Hazel Brooks, in her report for September 2010 to June 2011, at the school’s 27th Graduation Ceremony, on June 29. She disclosed that the school year began with 77 boys and 57 girls, of whom 67 (38 boys and 28 girls) have now graduated. Already, so far, a further 60 children have been registered for admission in the coming new school year in September.
The principal told the gathering of parents, guardians and other persons in the community that she and her teaching staff had prepared the children for primary school through the power of compassionate and love-filled teaching. “As Early Childhood Educators, we are aware of the fact that children learn best when they are actively involved in activities. Consequently, they are given opportunities to learn in ways that are meaningful to them,” the principal continued. “They are taught christian morals and values, through various Bible stories, songs, drama and dance. Over the past two years, these children have passed through the doors of St. Mary’s Pre-school to play, paint, draw, dance, sing, build, dress-up, laugh, cry, read, write, colour and learn.” Mrs. Brooks thanked the teachers for their hard work, love and dedication. “Without you, these children could not have made it this far. You have given them a good foundation on which to build their future,” she told her teaching staff. The principal also acknowledged the support of parents and guardians and paid tribute to many persons and organisations in the business community, in particular, for their support in various forms. St. Mary’s Pre-school is governed by the Anglican Vestry which the Principal said was always “supportive and committed to staff development, providing materials for the classrooms, playground and other areas of the school.” |
