Had it not been for Hurricane Gonzalo, the New Life Crusade, an undertaking by International Evangelist, Mildred (Mil) Robinson, would have been in its second week in Anguilla.
The extraordinary large yellow and white tent to accommodate the crusade was already mounted on the perimeter grounds of the Clayton Lloyd International Airport when the hurricane began its approach to Anguilla. The tent, now back up, was hurriedly dismantled on Monday morning, October 13, when it became apparent that Gonzalo would strike the island.
The Seventh-day Adventist-sponsored New Life Crusade is the second to be conducted in Anguilla by the Montserrat-born globe-trotting and accomplished Evangelist.
She first came to Anguilla at the turn of 2011 when she conducted a crusade which lasted several weeks. As a consequence, the membership of the SDA Church was expanded to the extent that an additional grouping of the Church was established at East End at the original site of the Mount Fortune Church.
That group was later accorded the status of the New Life Company by the St Croix-based North Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The New Life Company is a separate, yet inclusive, part of the three formal congregations of the Church which also have an associate and active Spanish group.
Evangelist Mil Robinson, who resides in St Thomas US Virgin Islands, was in Anguilla about a month ago to whip up interest and support for the forthcoming crusade. She will be carrying out her work in close cooperation with the Resident Anguilla District Minister, Pastor Trent Berg, a national of the US Virgin Islands.
