Cultural writer, Colonel (Concha) Harrigan, known for his past performing roles and three booklets of plays, has now released a CD featuring five monologues entitled: Welcome to Anguilla; You tell me so; Mary’s wake; Mass fi so; and Serenaders.
“They are stories of the ancestors of Anguilla from the late 20s, 30s and 40s,” he explained. “For instance, Mary’s wake is about how funerals used to be; and Serenaders is about the Anguillian tradition of serenading which is far different from today.”
Asked why he had published his literary work on CD this time, rather than in booklet form, Mr Harrigan replied: “Several persons told me that they would prefer to sit to look at, or listen to, the plays being performed so I decided, that instead of printing a booklet of monologues, to produce a CD. They now can easily play it in their vehicles or at home, and listen to it at their leisure rather than read.”
Mr Harrigan is noted to have made a number of cultural history performances with the now defunct group – The Anguilla Cultural and Social Society. It went off the scene in 1980 following which Mr Harrigan took to his writing skills. “The messages in the plays, and now in the CD, bring to light events of the past in Anguilla,” said the author who is personally handling the sales and marketing. “Quite a number of persons have bought the CD so far. The price is EC$53.60 or US$20.00.”
