Another Anguillian woman, in the person of Mrs Evalie Bradley, is contesting the 2015 general election. She is the newly-selected candidate of the Anguilla United Front for the Road North constituency. The party announced her candidacy in a press release this week.
Mrs Bradley is a former Principal Assistant Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office. Her prior appointments, in her long public service career, included Establishments Secretary which was later restyled Deputy Director, Employment; and Labour Commissioner.
Her public service career began in 1973 following extensive training at the Sir Arthur Lewis Technical College in St Lucia. Later, she pursued several management training courses at universities and other institutions in the United Kingdom, Canada and the Caribbean region. She retired from the public service in in 2007. Mrs Bradley is also a long-serving Methodist Local Preacher, and is engaged in various aspects of community service in Anguilla.
The following is the AUF press release about her candidacy for the Road North Constituency:
“The Anguilla United Front (AUF) meeting in a Special Convention of the Party on Sunday, July 20, 2014, resoundingly ratified the selection of Mrs. Evalie Bradley, as the Party’s candidate to contest the District 5, Road North seat in the next General Elections, constitutionally due in 2015. The choice of Mrs. Bradley by the Road North Constituency Cell followed the process and procedures laid down in the Party’s constitution for the selection of its candidates to contest elections.
The Road North Constituency Cell presented its selection to the Special Convention, comprising delegates from all seven constituency cells, the candidates and the members of the General Council, as provided for by the constitution and placed Mrs. Bradley’s name in nomination. In keeping with the constitution each constituency cell was required to signify their ratification of Mrs. Bradley’s selection or otherwise.
One by one each constituency cell declared their overwhelming support for and ratified the candidacy of Mrs. Evalie Bradley to carry the AUF banner in District 5, Road North, in the upcoming general elections. Mrs. Bradley, in accepting her selection as the AUF candidate for District 5, pledged her full commitment to working assiduously, with the backing and work of the district cell and the Party as a whole to achieve victory especially on behalf of women and to win District 5 for the AUF and help to form the next Government of Anguilla.
Mrs. Bradley pledged with the help of God to conduct herself honourably, holding fast to the positive and wholesome Christian values that are at the core of who she is as a person and a citizen and to use them to guide her as he goes forward on this new phase and role in her life and in the Anguillian community. She affirmed that she would not be engaging in personal attacks and denigration of her opponents. She would speak to the issues and critique her opponents’ positions on the issues and their records of performance, where this is warranted. Above all she would present her vision and goals and those of her Cell for District 5 and the Party’s vision, goals and programme for Anguilla as a whole. She admonished her colleagues to remain steadfast in seeking to keep the campaign civil, wholesome and focused on the issues and to promote and maintain positive images for themselves and the Party during the ups and downs of campaigning, seeking to keep the campaign at a high standard at all times.
The selection of Mrs. Bradley was welcomed with much satisfaction by the delegates to the Special Convention. Her selection follows the recent resignation of Mr. Delsic Rey as the Party’s candidate in District 5.
Mrs. Bradley’s election campaign will be formally launched in the near future with a major public meeting in the District 5, Road North Constituency, at which she will be introduced to the constituency. This is expected to be held shortly after the 2014 Summer Festival has ended.
