The Manager of the Quarter was Joycelyn Richardson of the Laundry Department. She received US$250; a plaque; one night stay for two and lunch for two at Oyster Bay Beach Resort in St Maarten.
The awardees were commended by the General Manager, Mr Stephane Zaharia. He prefaced his remarks by informing the employees that the resort had seen some progress in its current financial performance earlier in the year, compared with 2013, but the summer was now showing an unfortunate decline in occupancy rates. He indicated that this was obviously due to the spread of reports in North America and Europe about the chikungunya disease being transmitted to persons in the region by the virus-carrying Aedes Egypti mosquito, but which was not a grave situation.
Mr. Zaharia informed the employees that the resort had a good leading inspection during the past quarter. He congratulated them, as well as Chris Richardson, for ensuring that all the departments were delivering the high standards required by a Leading Hotel of the World. The General Manager also updated the employees on the progress of the resort’s green energy project, saying that the first one megawatt of solar power, outside the electricity grill, should be commissioned shortly near the reverse osmosis plant.
“This is something very unique, ladies and gentlemen,” Mr Zaharia observed. “We are in some way writing history in Anguilla because nobody has this kind of solar farm, and we are very much the first ones – not only to do that, but also to do it off the ANGLEC grid. That one megawatt of electricity is solely to produce water for the golf course and the resort.”
