The students at the Central Christian School at Rey Hill, under the direction of their teachers, mounted an exhibition which was widely supported by their parents and other members of the general public. The event was held on May 28 and 29.
“For those two days we have had the Central Christian School’s exhibit, as we call it. We have been showcasing the work of the students and some of the books that we use in our education system,” Mr Andrew Blake, the Principal of the school, told The Anguilian. “The Beka Book is our core curriculum and we have a lot of other books including Bibles and language books which we use as well. What we are doing therefore, by having this exhibition, is giving folks an idea of what we do at Central Christian School.
“Additionally, outside of school work, we have some of our upper school students working actual experiments for visitors to get a feel of the science that we also do. In the lower school, especially at grade 3, we have a lot of the Anguilla Day social studies projects on display as well. So there is a large variety of exhibits – arts and crafts, social studies and science projects.”
Asked to elaborate on the progress of the school, the Principal went on: “What we are trying to do is to build not just the academic side of the students’ life, but also the character of each of our students. Because of that, and with the grace of God, we have been able to push the school forward and so far, I think, we have done an excellent job in getting the school where we want it to be.”
Meanwhile, Mr Blake drew attention to the special attire which both the teachers and the students were wearing in the run-up to the celebration of Anguilla Day. “We spoke to them about the event and what it represents,” he went on. “This year we did not have anyone coming to the school to speak about the Anguilla Revolution, but we were able to tell our students all we know about it and, accordingly, all of us are dressed up in the national colours.”
