Ronya Foy Connor, Gender Development Coordinator in the Ministry of Home Affairs Gender Affairs Unit recently completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Howard University in Washington, DC. She graduated with a 3.94 out of 4.00 grade point average and also earned a Graduate Certificate in International Studies. Dr. Foy Connor’s dissertation is titled “Zanzibari Women in Local Social Entrepreneurship: A Participatory Social Learning Approach to Community Sustainability.”
Dr. Foy Connor states, “I was honoured to have friends and family attend commencement; most notably, my 100 year old grandfather. He was not able to complete primary school, but in only 2 generations we have managed to earn the highest degree possible. I salute all who have made this step a reality.”
Dr. Foy Connor received numerous scholarships and fellowships throughout her academic career and was also inducted into the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honour Society, Golden Key International Honour Society and Phi Alpha National Social Work Honour Society. Dr. Foy Connor also holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Howard University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
