A number of churches, holding membership in the Anguilla Christian Council and the Anguilla Evangelical Association, participated in the Annual Day of Prayer observance on Thursday. The Anguilla House of Assembly, the Caribbean Beacon Radio and KooL FM were all involved in the event. There was also a prayer session and procession through the Island Harbour area.
The observance of the National Day of Prayer, under the theme “Voices United in Prayer”, was launched by Chief Minister, Mr Hubert Hughes.
In a radio broadcast, Chief Minister Hughes said in part: “I believe that the theme this year is very timely. Many persons in Anguilla and, indeed, our region and wider afield, are struggling to make ends meet. We are now more than ever having to grapple with the numerous issues besetting our young people – violence, gun crimes and they go on and on.
“At this time, I strongly believe that the solution is to unite our voices in prayer, as a nation and as a people. We need to pray as a united voice and not as a divided people. This month we celebrate the 47th Anniversary of Anguilla Day, and the theme this year speaks to reviving the spirit of unity. So let us unite.”
