A much-contested photo shoot, for the cover page of LIME Anguilla’s 2014/2015 Telephone Directory, now in circulation, has been won by Mr Larry Stott, Head of Service Support & Delivery at the company. His prize is a 16-gig Apple iPad as well as the title of LIME’s Photographer of the Year.
The competition was opened to all photographers in Anguilla including LIME’s employees. Mr Stott’s winning submission was a photograph of a Brown Booby chick taken at West Prickley Pear. He was at time accompanying Ms Louise Soanes, a University of Liverpool Research Associate, and a team from the Anguilla National Trust, engaged in attaching GPS tracking devices to Brown Boobies. The devices are a means to determine the distance at which the adult birds fly to obtain food for their chicks.
“The photograph was taken during the midday hours so the sun was very intense,” Mr Stott recalled. “To capture a white fluffy ball of cotton, as this chick is, is very hard to get the detail.” He explained that the choice of his submission had to do with LIME’s focus on education, youth, sports, culture and the protection of the environment. “I am hoping that this would bring some sort of attention to the need to protect the environment,” he added. “I am happy that my photograph was selected.”
Mr Stott is an avid photographer and his work has appeared on the cover of telephone directories before, but by special arrangement rather than through a competition.
Ms Jade Reymond, LIME Anguilla’s Marketing Manager, said the winning photograph had to depict “value every moment,” the company’s tagline, and the competitor had to be from Anguilla. The submission also had to be accompanied by a short explanation as to why the photographer thought that, at the particular time, his photograph depicted LIME’s co-values. “The photos had to be printed and delivered to us, and we made sure that no names were on them,” she stated. “We went through all the photos and basically did an old-fashion voting. Larry won by miles…This was an opportunity for us to showcase Anguilla through our talented photographers.”
The other photographers were Susan Croft, Dr Rene Guinto, Kevin Archibald, Derrys Richardson, Ivor Hodge, Keiroy Brown and Josveek Huligar.
Meanwhile, Ms Reymond, who expressed gratitude to all of the photographers, said that Global Directory was the publishing company for the telephone directory. “Over the last two years the company took on more of the distribution of the directory and this year they have partnered with Mr Sutcliffe Hodge and he is solely responsible for distribution,” she added. “We have directories here at the office for customers, but he will be doing most of the deliveries. From my understanding, most of the books will be at various distribution points for residential customers – and he will be delivering the books to our corporate customers.”
