Tourists and Anguillians alike were treated to various tasty samples of specially-prepared delicacies by the National Culinary Team at its main annual fundraising event at the Viceroy Anguilla last Sunday evening, April 13.
The food displays, which formed a ring around the poolside at Aleta Restaurant, were heavily patronised by the patrons who paid US$65 to attend the event. Although the crowd was not as large as that of last year, it was thought that more money was raised on this occasion given the price of the tickets, according to a spokesperson for the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA).
Mrs Gilda Gumbs-Samuel, Executive Director of the AHTA, expressed thanks to all persons for their unwavering commitment and support for the culinary team. The chefs will represent Anguilla at the Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition due to be held in Miami in June. Last year, the team won gold for Anguilla and this year the chefs are hoping to repeat that record performance.
During the presentation of the team to the guests at the fundraising event, Chef Guy Gumbs was honoured by his colleagues. He was recognised with a plaque for his encouragement and support over the years and his early participation as a member of the culinary team. Mr Gumbs took the opportunity to wish the chefs every success in the forthcoming culinary competition.
