On Monday March 17, the Anguilla Craft Group donated US$5000 to the AXA Food Bank. Chair of the Group, Arlene Knaub, presented a cheque to Rebecca Webster of Merchants Market for US$2,400 that will provide carrots for the food packages for the next year. She also presented a cheque for US$2,600 to Blondell Rodgiers for the Hope Centre that organises the AXA Food Bank and AXA Cares.
Charlotte Berglund said that some 100 families throughout the island are provided with food packages every other week. The packages include non-perishable food items as many of the families do not have refrigeration. They are distributed by a sponsor in each district and packaged by volunteers. Donations are received from grocery stores including Albert’s Marketplace, J W Proctors and Ashley and Sons. Individual donations are also received from residents and visitors.
Rebecca said they are always happy to assist the AXA Food Bank and she is encouraging other businesses to also assist. She said any business willing to give funds can deposit them with Merchants Market who will pass food on to help families of Anguilla who are in need.
Rodgiers expressed thanks on behalf of the Food Bank as well as thanked the Craft Group for its generous donation to help families. She also encouraged other groups and businesses to come forward and contribute as there was a great need for more food items.
