The latest report on Wednesday from the Anguilla Police, about the robbery at the vehicle licensing section of the Department of Infrastructure, suggests that the two persons said to have done the crime may have made off with some $30,000 in EC and US currency in one bag.
The Police confirmed reports that a second bag, with money and receipts, was recovered outside the wall over which the robbers made their escape. It is assumed that the bag dropped as they fled the area. The Police were unable to report how much money was in that bag.
The robbery occurred on Friday, January 31, at about 5.04 pm. It was reported that two masked men with guns jumped over the wall and robbed the two cashiers as they were exiting the building with the day’s cash collections.
According to the information released by the Police, both young men made their escape by jumping back over the wall fence and running in a northerly direction. The Police are asking anyone who may have seen them fleeing to contact the Criminal Investigation Department.
Meanwhile, the regular weekly Police Report shows that nine serious crimes were committed on the island during the period January 29- February 4.
Of that number, there were five thefts at Island Harbour, South Hill and George Hill. The stolen items included car parts, a cellular phone, electricity and money.
Three burglaries were reported at Shoal Bay and South Valley. An iPad, a cellular phone and money were among the items stolen.
There was also a robbery at the Department of Infrastructure, as mentioned earlier in this story.
Four arrests were made during the period: three males to prevent a breach of the peace; and one male for possession of cannabis.
Eight traffic accidents were reported.
