The 42nd Regional Police Pageant at The Landsome Bowl Cultural Center, on January 30, Thursday night, was a huge success. It was part of Police Week 2014. The five female constables shone light on the beauty the police force has. The five segments that ladies partook in were Ceremonial Wear, Speech, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.
Marcel Dottin (Anguilla), who wore a beautiful orange dress, symbolic of the dolphins on the Anguilla flag, won the overall competition with a total of 1082 points – and the segments of Best Speech (217 points), Best Evening Wear (288 points) and Best Interview (210 points). 1st Runner Up with (1015 points) was Amanda Moses (Antigua & Barbados) who wore a green and gold dress that sparkled like Swarovski crystals in the light. Then there was Liselle Paul (St. Lucia) who wore an elegant red and white dress that blew in the wind and won 2nd Runner Up with (993 points). Best Ceremonial Wear (145ponts) and Best Talent (254 points) went to Delma Tavernier (Tortola, BVI) in blue. Dolena Boyd (St. Kitts & Nevis) received a Participational Trophy as did the other contestants.
The talent portion of the competition was especially entertaining as the police officers showed off their singing and acting abilities. Delma Tavernier, of Tortola, sang her heart out, while the other contestants did performance art routines alluring the crowd with messages of unity against crime, hard work and determination. Saxophonist Trevor Queeley of the Police Band serenaded the ladies just before the winners were announced.
There is a certain admiration and respect that the Police Force of Anguilla carries that was symbolized by the police pageant. Through the pageant an understanding of hard work, respect and true beauty were learned. The police force is committed to the enhancement of the lives of all those who live, work and visit the island.
