Armed with Social Studies notebooks filled with questions and pencils in hand, students from Omololu International School (OIS) graced the lobby area of Cap Juluca Hotel to have a tour of the facilities and have their questions answered about Tourism and the many aspects, amenities and programs it offers at this prestigious property.
We were greeted cheerfully by Mr. Kevin Carty who introduced himself and welcomed us warmly onto the property. The tour began in the lobby where Mr. Carty proceeded to give us a brief history of Cap Juluca. This 2013 #1 Beach Resort Worldwide; as rated by Harper Hideaway Resort, has the origin of its name derived from the First Settlers in Anguilla – the Tainos. He then invited questions from the 11 touring students and was later joined by Ms. Sheila Harrigan; Director of Guest activities.
Ms. Harrigan continued the tour of the resort and introduced us to the Staff of the Front Office where the students directed their questions to the concierge, Ms. Denise Maynard. Students were informed of the roles and tasks of the Front Office and also experienced firsthand how the capable Staff carried out their duties. Ms. Harrigan then went on to the other amenities such as the Fitness Centre, Retail Boutiques as well as the Pimms and Spice restaurant. She also spoke about the many Water Sports activities offered at Cap Juluca Resort. We were then given refreshments and snack at Restaurant Blue. The OIS students were extremely appreciative of this gesture and sang their ‘Thank You’ song to the capable staff of Restaurant Blue.
The tour continued with the students being shuttled to now view one of the many Ocean Front Suites. The students were in awe and taken aback by the view and the luxurious furnishings that were available. It took quite a lot of prompting to get them out of the room! Many went on to devise plans of how they were going to get their families to stay a night or two and maybe just forever! They exclaimed how this was the best field trip ever and tried to persuade the teacher to stay a little longer.
Ms. Harrigan answered questions from the Omololu International School students that ranged from wanting to know which celebrity is currently staying at the hotel, how does the hotel source its stock for the kitchen, how does Cap Juluca handle problems with guest, which year was their most productive in terms of revenue and visitor arrivals to discovering how it goes about advertising and persuading visitors to chose their resort from among the many varied ones throughout Anguilla.
Overall, it was an enlightening and fascinating field trip for the OIS students and we wish to thank the very capable and accommodating Staff of Cap Juluca for so ably attending to our needs and truly providing us with the ‘Tourist Experience’.
