The East End Sports Club presented a check of $5,000 EC to the Health Authority of Anguilla for an infant ventilator in the hospital’s nursery. The presentation took place in the Princess Alexandra Hospital Conference Room on January 6, 2014 at 1:30 pm.
One of the major problems the hospital faces concerns premature infants whose lungs aren’t mature enough for them to breathe on their own, and rather than transferring them eslewhere the Health Authority is looking at ways to take better care of the children and thus keep them on island. The Pediatrician, Dr Indirah Singh-Minott, said: “We may end up manually using a bag and mask and try to breathe for the infant. We have children who…get into respiratory distress so definitely this equipment would be really helpful.”
The healthcare of Anguilla is vital to the growth and development of its people and for future generations. It is important for the residents of Anguilla to understand that regardless of what position you are in, and what wealth you acquire, it cannot be enjoyed if you have ill health. The government may not always be in a position to provide money for healthcare on the island which is why the East End Community Sports Club has taken matters into its own hands.
The East End Community Sports Club is a non-profit organization that gained the money for the new infant ventilator from last year’s Anguilla Gospel Talent Competition and is glad to see its work bearing fruit. The organization has been in existence for over ten years and President of the Club, Mr. Owen Mussington, and Member Ms. Stacy Ruan, have been proactive in their efforts in helping the island’s community since 2009. The Club has donated money to the East End and Island Harbor Primary Schools and plans to continue its efforts to support the Health Authority and other institutions on the island in need.
The Anguilla Gospel Talent Competition held its Grand Finale and award ceremony on December 7, last year, at the St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church. The eighteen winners who received trophies are as follows:
