Students at the Adrian T Hazell Primary School spent part of Tuesday this week presenting a number of technological projects they embarked on aimed at creating a future business idea.
Their work was supervised over the past several weeks by Teachers JemmisaGraneau-Gumbs and Rochelle Grant.
“Over the past six weeks our students were tasked with preparing a business idea – such as creating business cards, brochures and building a website for a future business that they would like to open in Anguilla,” Ms Graneau-Gumbs told The Anguillian.
“During the past six weeks we have guided them in completing these activities. They have also built models and created other business supplements, and are now presenting their work to their parents. This is to show parents some of the ideas their children have for Anguilla in the future, and the businesses they would like to see on the island.”
Ms Graneau-Gumbs, who teaches Information Technology and is a Computer Technician, continued: “We are using technology to prepare our students for the business environment when they leave school and for working in a modern business world. We teach Information Technology so they are able to use the computers to design everything using master software like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher and prints.”
Teacher Graneau-Gumbs studied Computer Support Technology in Arizona and did an Associate Degree in PC Maintenance Technology.
“The children have been very dedicated,” she added. “They have stayed back late in the afternoon, came in at weekends to work on their projects, and have been very excited to learn about building websites and how to design business materials.”
Ms Graneau-Gumbs works in collaboration with her teaching colleague, Rochelle Grant, who studied Information Technology at Florida International University. Ms Grant has been teaching the technical subject for six years at the Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School and the Adrian T Hazell Primary School. She holds a degree in Management Information Systems.
