On Monday 19th August, Coach Joe Farroba held the 2nd of 2 basketball clinics, assisted by Coach Brian Ferris. The first one, for referees was held on Tuesday 13th August and attended by approximately 25 youth. The Coaching Clinic was attended by coaches from the Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association (AABA) and the Department of Sports as well as youth who demonstrated the plays and drills set out by Coach Farroba.
Mr. Merrick Richardson, speaking as President of the Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association (AABA), stated that the clinic “…was very good, the coaches are obviously very knowledgable and they gave us a lot of tips”, which are very useful after coaching basketball for a long time. Vice-President of the AABA, Mr. Rudy Webster, added that “it helps that they gave us a structure, some plays to run and they are supposed to send some videos that will help as well”.
Following the workshop, Mr. Delano Mussington, Department of Sports Programme Officer expressed his appreciation to Coach Farroba and Coach Ferris for providing this free clinic that gave coaches an opportunity to learn strategies and observe drills and plays that will make a big difference for coaching the sport in Anguilla. He also thanked Mr. Louis Price for allowing them to hold the clinic at the covered JC Recreational Centre sport court.
Coach Farroba expects to return to the island in March 2014 during the AABA Basketball tournament, to watch the teams and promote next summer’s basketball camp. The JC Recreational Centre and the Department of Sports wish to thank Coach Farroba for adding this new aspect to his visit and for the ongoing support he provides which will add value and build the skills of our local basketball teams.
