The Police reported on Wednesday that investigations were being carried out into two cases of child molestation on the island in which the victims were under five years old.
Commissioner Rudolph Proctor pointed out that the law prohibited any details to be given about such matters. “I can safely say, though, that we have always taken a very serious view when it comes to investigating those matters affecting very young children and our focus will be on these matters…With the legislation we have, there is going to be a rigorous focus in terms of policing these incidents and reporting these incidents.
“Parents are encouraged to come forward and report any form of molestation or abuse of children. It is a sickening behaviour in which adults want to engage in sexual activity or abuse of children of a tender age. It will be our focus to police those matters to the fullest when they are reported to us.”
Meanwhile, the Police reported a number of other offences on the island during the period June 19-26. These included five thefts at Blowing Point, South Hill, Limestone Bay and Sandy Ground. The stolen property included goats, a boat engine, a cellular phone and a Yamaha 4-wheeler. One burglary was reported in The Valley where Carib Beer was stolen.
Eleven persons were arrested during the period as follows: three males to prevent a breach of the peace; three males for causing grievous bodily harm; one male for possession of cannabis; one male and one female on default warrants; one male for wounding; and one male for theft.
