THE PROTEST MARCH TO THE AG’S CHAMBERS
It is with pleasure that I write on the latest protest that occurred on Friday 21st outside the AG Chambers. Thanks to Mr Roosevelt Harris aka Litchie for making this so easy for me after hearing his comments on Upbeat Radio on Saturday evening, June 22nd. Like any curious person, I went to see the protest and to sum it up –poorly attended. In Anguilla persons are so quick to ridicule you but even General Lenchie knew he had a few soldiers supporting his back. During Saturday’s programme on Upbeat Radio he said, “despite the FEW, we were able to unite.” What a farce! Unite who? The AUM supporters are not interested in uniting. This is just a regular memory verse that they are so quick to rattle off their tongue. The hosts and hostesses of these talk shows are soquick to shut you down or criticize you if you are not on the same page with them. They use words like “unfortunately some people don’t understand” or they simply give a nice sigh on air and gently say “thank you for your call” without further elaborating but – just nicely ignoring your comment.
However, watching Friday’s protest was just another waste of time, mockery and embarrassment. I sat in my car and watched the protest while listening to it live on the radio – it was like watching tv. (Radio Anguilla was the only media there.) I must say they did a good job in describing the scene outside the AG Chambers. I was impressed! It’s just eight months ago that I recently started listening to the news on Radio Anguilla and compared with the other radio stations. Radio Anguilla offers a comprehensive news package and is balanced by far and objective in its news.
I’m saying this because after the entire protest, Mr Greaves went back on air to clear up the reason why the AG did not appear downstairs to meet the protesters. This is because he was waiting for some of their representatives to meet him upstairs with the letter! Can you believe it? Litchiefully well knew that the AG requested him and atleast two or three representatives to come to his office to meet him, yet he made the rest of his soldiers believe that the AG was rudely ignoring them. I won’t even comment on the craziness that ensued after.
But MrLitchieon the Saturday night show on Upbeat Radio gave a recount of Friday’sordeal including reading the letters he sent and the responses from the AG. So again it is clear – the AG did ask for some members of Civil Society to meet him. To further prove the point, a caller phoned the show asking about the request theAG had made asking for representatives to visit his office. And Litchie basically responded that he – Litchie – preferred to do it infront the people just incase he may have gotten hurt. How laughable! It’s such a shame about what some Anguillians are allowing other persons to do to them. Three things happened during the show. Litchie said Radio Anguilla was the only media there and how he was disappointed with their broadcast. Oh really? Based on Radio Anguilla’s news on Friday night it was exactly what I saw happened outside the AG’s Chambers! Radio Anguilla further proved that the AG did ask for representatives to come up based on Litchie’s reading the letters live on air and due to his response that he didn’t want to be hurt. The two final blows came from Mr Clement Ruan who called in to the programme basicallyaccusingLitchie of lying saying he (Litchie) did not get his permission to hold the march on his property. And, to add insult to injury, Mr Ruan said he doesn’t even know who Litchie is!! Then Mr Wycliffe Richardson from ATV told Mr Harris (Litchie) that he seemed to be having a problem with the truth. It was a Litchie circus! Seems like the joke was on him.
My advice toLitchie is: consider me a good friend. Do not hold any more rallies. In fact, change your group’s name from Civil Society because based on your numbers no proper representation of the Anguillian community was there. The AG will remain here because it’s the Governor’s decision. As the Governor pointed out a few months ago, he doesn’t have to consult with the Chief Minister relating to the appointment of the AG. It’s only manners that he did, or that he does, but in fact does not have to. Litchie, please listen to the news. Read the laws for yourself and don’t allow some persons to make a fool of you. God Bless. And no more of that type rallies, please!
